She joined Her Gym in 2012 because she realized the need for both the physical and mental benefits of exercise.
Her Favorite Classes:
• Body Pump
My attendance at the Her Gym had been spotty, after a very intense year concentrating on the needs of others. I made a commitment to myself to exercise and eat right, losing 30 pounds in 7 months. I was in the best shape of my life. Yeah!
Then, much to my surprise, my annual mammogram was positive for breast cancer. It was detected early at stage 1. I elected to have a lumpectomy. The day before surgery I, of course, was at Her Gym for my endorphin fix and a big dose of comradery. While recovering, I missed my friends and classes at the gym so much, that I begged my surgeon to let me go back as quickly as possible. 2 weeks after surgery, I sat on my RPM bike grateful to be there even if it was for only half the class. I continued to workout through 9 weeks of radiation treatments, stopping only when burns wouldn’t allow me to put on a sports bra. Throughout this rocky journey, the biggest gains were physiological.
Yes, working out gave me a sense of normalcy. I so appreciate my Her Gym family and all the support over this last year. I don’t know what I would have done without you!
She started her journey with us looking for a healthy life almost 3 years ago. During the first 2 years she worked out alone at home and changer her diet completely. Kenia lost more than 35 pounds all by herself.
Life happened and at the two years mark moved from Houston to El Paso. It was a big change and a big challenge to keep her routine along with all other changes going on in Kenia’s life. During the first 3 months in El Paso, she still worked out at home. Then, she felt the need to find a place to continue with the healthy lifestyle. A new city, a new home, missing Houston and her friends could easily have derailed any progress.
Her challenge was to find a place like home. A small place where she wasn’t intimidated. Being kind of introverted she never thought a gym like that existed. Kenia’s goal then was not to lose a lot of weight. She was looking to maintain her progress and to learn new things, meet new people and be fitter.
She specifically looked for a place with Les Mills classes since she fell in love with Body Combat at home. A friend mentioned Her Gym, so she checked online, and they had Body Combat and Les Mills classes. I loved the facilities. she signed up in my first visit.
Almost a year has passed now, and Kenia have taken every single class in the schedule. During the first months, with the help of Erin, she learned how to use the machines and incorporated weights to my training. She comes every day, including weekends. Her Gym has become like her second home for working out.
My favorite workout continues to be Body Combat, maybe because I lost most of my weight doing combat, it has a special place in my heart. I also discovered a lost love for biking. RPM and Sprint have become part of my routine. I also do Body
Step, CXWork every week. One of the great things about Her Gym are the options. If you miss one class, you have more options during the day or the week. If you get bored, you can try new classes or change your schedule. Options are not limited to a treadmill or dumbbells. I look forward to continuing to work on myself with the help of Her Gym during the next year.
She works for American Airlines as a flight attendant and international speaker and she is also a mom to a very handsome young man who has autism.
And this how Her Gym has positively impacted Jenny’s life
Becoming a member of Her Gym has given me back my life. On March 24, 2016, a big part of my life was taken in a car accident. Despite this terrible experience, I refused to believe my life was over. With the help of my physical therapists, I understood that it was up to me to choose to be a victim or take back what I had lost. I stopped feeling sorry for myself and began a new chapter in my life.
I enrolled in Her Gym and my days consisted of following my therapist’s work plan adding more and more into my routine and exercises until I was strong enough to try Her Gym classes. I began with TRX. Then I added Insanity Live and I fell in love. To that love, I added RPM, Body Pump and Country Heat. Now I can say that I am no longer a victim. I am a new and better version of myself. With the love and support of my family and Her Gym Instructors who encouraged me to go a little further every time until I became stronger. I am happy to report that I am here today, back to work and ready to receive passengers to my first flight from Boston to L.A. feeling like the first day of school. Scared but excited.
Thank you to Her Gym and all the Instructors and new friends who, like my family, supported and encouraged me every day. For those of you thinking of joining Her Gym, don’t think… just do it! Like me, don’t take life for granted and live like there is no tomorrow.
